Unofficial community survey

Post by ForeverPure on Sat May 09, 2015 12:44 pm

I grant permission to everyone to copy and or adapt the questions created for this survey in their own survey as the survey account itself has expired.

Great work with this! Very Happy You cover a lot of topics, including ones that I was wanting to bring up, like what are peoples' limits, and more about specific viewpoints. I'm glad to see questions about those, to show the range of members and views that make up this community.

Yes, I created the survey because of the "varying degrees" of antisexualism throughout the community - I tried to cover as much relevant ground as possible, even if some of the questions do not apply to me. It will definitely be interesting to see the results after at least five entries have been made (technically six if you count mine).

I filled out the survey, and I'll be interested in seeing the results. The questions gave me some more inspiration on what to write for the proposed main page project.

About 45% of users on this website have participated in the survey. That's 4 users in total (including me), assuming that the users who participated are registered on the forums. I would like to get at least 2 more responses before publishing the results. At six participants, that would be about 67% of users on this site.

Thanks for sharing your responses. Some of the members haven't logged in since shortly after they signed up. I'll pin this thread so it's more easily visible.

Just need one more response in order to gain six total responses. I will publish the data after that. Keep in mind that individual surveys will not be published, nor will IP addresses be released. Responses will be tallied and the numbers displayed by each question.

Will the survey continue after that? The more responses from members we can get, the better. I also hope that posting up the results once you gain 6 responses, will encourage others to respond, and start discussions based on the results so far.

As long as ProProfs free plan allows the viewing of anonymous results. Right now I'm on their trial, which is automatically activated after registration. Their free plan apparently excludes "detailed statistics", which may or may not mean that I would have access to any sort of results. The trial expires in eight days, if a sixth response is not made close to the expiry, I will publish the results at five instead.

I can always recreate the survey on a better/different survey website, but I would need to check out their privacy policy first. Then there is the option of upgrading to a plan for ProProfs, but that service would be a rip-off (would need to pay $120+ yearly, $10 a month).

Possible alternatives are:
- KwikSurveys
- Google Forms

I didn't know that ProProfs had those limitations, and it wouldn't be worth it to upgrade to the paid plan. I've used Google Forms before for a survey, and I thought it worked well. However, the way the results were analyzed with the survey I helped worked on, was exporting the raw data, then working with it in another program, in order to also calculate the correlations between different questions. The results collected in Google Forms are also collected in a Google Sheets document that allows you to see detailed responses, but keeping track of various Google documents in a pain though.

Here's a comparison of the free services: http://www.masternewmedia.org/create-online-surveys-guide-to-the-best-free-services/

Of them, either Google Forms, or KwikSurveys seem like the best option, for being the least restrictive.

I wasn't sure how some of those questions were meant to be answered ? Like for the list of sexual things that you've engaged in, is that asking what your currently do or whT you have done? I answered it based on whatI have done in the past. as I don't have sex or do relationships now

If you have never engaged in an activity, the answer would be "Never". If you have, but only in the past, the answer would be "Very rarely (only in the past)". This is assuming you are inquiring about question 6 (behavioural profile).

Keep in mind that the "behavioural profile" is an optional portion of the quiz. The only required questions are 1, 2, 5 and 10.

I saw that the results were published, and it was good that we were able to get 5 responses. It's too bad that trial is expiring very soon, so it'd be important to recreate it in either KwikSurveys (though I don't know what their services are like) or Google Forms.

Could I suggest some possible questions to add on?

Long awaited response, but I give everyone full permission to copy and or adapt the survey questions in their own survey.

Re: Unofficial community survey

I'd like to adapt it! When adapting it, I'd like to keep all of the questions, but add a few more. I've considered asking a few questions about: identity, mental health and/or experiences with pathologization, attitude towards romance, and involvement in other communities.

Should the scope of the survey and who it's for stay the same, or would it be helpful to widen the scope to include those that don't have sex, but don't necessarily identify as antisexual (for example, those who identify as celibate or abstinent instead), to compare if there are any differences between us and them as groups.

I've wanted to add a question to know what percentage are positive, negative or neutral towards romance (and what percentage are also antiromantic), what percentage have dealt with pathologization (i.e: went to a therapist who treated not wanting sex as a problem to be treated, or being diagnosed with Sexual Aversion Disorder, or Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder).

I've also wanted to know what the boundaries of this community are; what sets us apart from the larger celibate community? Does everyone who finds this community useful and relatable to their experiences necessarily identify as antisexual?

Sounds alright, I definitely would make the survey on a different website than the one I used, I think Google Forms looks like a better alternative.

Should I post the questions I've considered adding here, and this can continue as a thread for brainstorming questions, or would anyone be interested in discussing it privately, such as over Skype? I'd use Google Forms, because I know how it works, and it has so many features for free.

Skype, that sounds like an interesting idea, but I have mixed feelings about that.  On one hand, discussions of ideas can occur in real time.  On the other hand, I highly value my privacy, so I find that a bit intimidating.  It's something to think about, though.

If you, and others were interested in discussing this over Skype, you and anyone else who is interested could PM me their Skype names, and I'd add them to a group. I suggested it because I like the ability to discuss ideas in real time. On the other hand, might brainstorming openly potentially attract more interested members?

Here are the questions I've had in mind adding so far:

  • What label do you use to refer to your rejection of sex?
  • How long ago did you decide to never have sex, or never have it again?
  • Have you told anyone about your rejection of sex?
  • Have you seen a mental health professional?
  • (for those who answered "yes" to the above question) Have any mental health professionals that you've seen treat you not wanting sex as a problem?
  • What is your attitude towards romance in general?
  • Do you want a romantic relationship?
  • (for those who answered "no" to the above question) Do you use a label for not wanting romance?
